The next Service Center Collection Representative training course starts July 28, 2008.  Evaluation may begin at any time, however, clients must report to us no later than June 30, 2008 for the required evaluation. This is a great opportunity for steady pay and a rewarding job for your clients.

A four-month course trains individuals to work as tax examining assistants at one of the ten Internal Revenue Service Centers located nationwide. Entry level is GS 4, with promotion potential to GS 7. Each person selected for the course will be placed in employment with the IRS upon successful completion of the program. Once on the job, the tax examining assistant will examine tax returns for accuracy and completeness and follow procedures to resolve errors or correspond with taxpayers to obtain missing information. Extensive reading may be required on the job and while in training.

While in training, students are taught basic tax law and how to handle tax correspondence, payment tracers, and credit transfers. Instruction in telephone skills and stress management are also included in the curriculum. Trainees learn to use a personal computer equipped with an enlargement system screen in order to rapidly and effectively access taxpayer information. 

Persons interested in this position must have a high energy and vitality level and possess good independent living and travel skills. In addition, strong logical reasoning ability and emotional maturity are necessary for the job. Two years of college or equivalent work experience is required, as are a 12th grade spelling level, good knowledge of business math, ability to type 30 wpm, and a print reading speed of 100 wpm with good comprehension when reading technical materials.   

All applicants must be U.S. citizens and are subject to FBI name and fingerprint check, employment checks, income tax verification for the past three years, and any other information relevant to selection for employment. Males born after December 31, 1959, must be registered with the Selective Services.
